The cookie exchange

Mom has been attending the fabled cookie exchange with her female work buddies every year for many years. One year, Mom talked me into attending, only to have me discover, too late, that men aren't really invited.

For some odd reason, one of our family's favorites among the cookies Mom brings home every year are these pretzel delights. If you buy a package of ROLO® candies, you'll see the "recipe" printed right there on the back of the bag. At our taste testing, we were split between topping the softened candy with another pretzel or a pecan half, the latter being as stated and pictured on the bag. Brad helpfully suggested that gently toasting the pecans first would probably give these a hint more sophistication, and I concur.

ROLO® Pretzel Delights

Adapted from hersheyland

Time: ~12 minutes (for 40 “cookies”)

Small pretzels, such as Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps
ROLO® Creamy Caramels Wrapped in Rich Chocolate Candy, unwrapped
pecan halves, optional (toasted would be good if you want to get fancy)

    1. Place a rack in the center of the oven; heat to 250 degrees. Line a 13-by-9-inch or 18-by-13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.
    2. Place pretzels in a single layer on the baking sheet. You can fit about 40 pretzels on a quarter sheet pan and about 80 pretzels on a half sheet pan. Top each pretzel with one candy.
    3. Bake until the candy begins to soften but not melt, about 3 minutes; watch carefully.
    4. Remove from the oven and top each candy with either a pecan half or another pretzel or a combination. Cool completely. Makes 40 to 80 “cookies.”
